Week 1 Newsletter

LAKENHEATH FANTASY FBALL 2009 Week 1 Newsletter News:
-Nitros Nannies spend 1/5 of their season budget to aquire CLEV defense and drop his 2 backup QBS.
-New team this year- Welcome to the Shark tank “Caddy-lick Slims”. Unfortunately he knows Bobby so that will explain his 3-10 finish this year.
-Returning Super Bowl Champs start draft QB-TE-DEF-QB. Hmmm can anyone say 0-13? His first pick was Matt Schuab who when he heard the news of which Fantasy team he was on promptly, tripped running out of bounds and is questionable for the rest of the season. (OK Wk 1)
-Other Owners file protest with the league for allowing Hog to draft for Cruisers (KUZ) and YellowFins (Tuna). Ned Rudd commented in the protest paperwork, “It’s not fair when someone with superior football knowledge to Kuz and Tuna (Like Hog) is allowed to draft for them. Next year we want Melissa to draft for them both.”

REMINDER: THURSDAY game next week (10 Sep). So start or bench all your Thursday players as appropriate before the start of the game

Weekly Awards:
The Vince Lombardi "great Coaching decision" award goes to...........

The "I must have started the wrong guy award".

The "even my sister knows better" award goes to

Most points scored this week (winner of $10){Note this is an increase from last year}

Lowest points scored this week ...

Last year Swami was 72-28 for the season (a .720 W/L record) and in the Lead Pipe of the Week was 10-6, while the harder (STS) upset of the week he was 8-8. He also predicted was uncanny accuracy (he is the Prodigious Prognosticator) the following:
“Army of Five cannot win their way out of a wet paperbag. Put it in the books 0-13”.

“Woody’s Warlocks have drafted a fine team that should contend for the SB”

“Nitro will make more transaction in 2008 then Jessica Simpson has boyfriends”

Swami Predictions Line for Week 1
Slams Slammers vs Crestview Crushers-There is a term for something like this where I come from. It is called an ASS Whipping. Best team in the league faces a middle of the road team and the hurt is gonna hurt. Slammers +9 on their way to 13-0

Sammy’s Slayers vs Cadillac Slim-Normally we welcome the new guy into the league with an easy matchup. Oops someone forgot to tell the scheduler that. Slim brings his no RB team into face last years Power House and Sammy is gonna let him have it with Rodgers-B Jacobs and Calvin Johson. Ouch! Slayers +7

Spikings vs Tok’s Terminators-Spikings smell blood and know that a good start is the key to this league. They are licking the lips thinkign about the tiny Terminators who limp into visit in week 1. Spikings +10

Neds Nutters vs Nitros Namby Pambies-Finally an even match up. Peyton Manning and AP are all I need to know to declare this one over before it starts. Nitro +4

Purveyors of Pain vs Woodys Warlocks-Ever wonder what would happen if Daryl and his other brother Daryl were to meet in a fight to the death. Watch and learn as these to nemesis (SP?) face off. Woodys lovely bride Ellie just had a baby so Woody is not gonna even see this PAIN TRAIN A COMING……….whoo whoooooooo POP +4

Yellowfins vs Cowboys-Another good matchup. The YellowBellies have committed themselves to this season and the Cowboys seem to have lost a step in the offseason. The young in’s sneak a win off the old man and set the trend for 2009 UPSET Yellowfins+1

Cruisers vs Army of Five AOF is deployed so his attention span may not be as good as it should. But even that is no excuse as his team is just overpowered by a resurgent Cruisers tired of losing. 1-0 for the Cruisers. Cruisers +3

ASK Bubba
Dear Bubba.
I like to pick my starters based on the color of their uniforms. I always favor blue over red, white over black etc. what do you think of my fantasy style?
Signed Woody

Well Woody,
It appears to have worked so far for you but in the future you may want to consider an alternative method as a form of second opinion. I suggest having the knots on your head read. Bubba

Lakenheath Draft Review 2009

Lakenheath Draft Rev
iew
Nitro Namby Pansies
B-
Best Pick: Ryan Grant (3)
Worst Pick: Romo (4)
Sleeper Jeremichael Finely GB TE
2010 Keeper: Matt Stafford
Evaluation: 2 QBs in the first 4 rounds is a waste. Romo will only play one week out of 16 and his draft spor would have been better spent on a Wes Welker, A Bryant or OchoCino. Love the double up at QB to guarantee a usable QB from Detroit after getting 2 QBs on the same bye initially.
Prediction: 6-7 but missed the playoffs

Army of Five
B
Best Pick: Ronnie Brown (2) Braylon Edwards (7) is a steal
Worst Pick: B Marshal (3) with suspension and off field issues could be a detriment
Sleeper: Matt Cassel (6)
2010 Keeper: Brady Quinn (17)
Evaluation: Weak at QB especially since neither Cassel (injury) nor Quinn (not named starter) may start week 1. Also weak at WR if Devin Hester is your WR2 (assuming B Marshall implodes)
Prediction: 8-5 sneaks into playoffs.

Cruisers
B+
Best Pick: Ray Rice (5), David Garrrard(6) and Brent Celek (9)
Worst Pick: Denver Defense (14) they did nothing to improve last years declining squad
Sleeper:
2010 Keeper:All four supplemental picks have that potential (E Graham, J Gage, Josh Morgan SF WR and Steve Smith NYG WR)
Evaluation: Solid draft with RB-WR-RB-WR-RB-QB-TE. Strong at RB and WR
Prediction: 9-4 Superbowl participant

Slams Slammers
B+
Best Pick: J Witten (3)
Worst Pick: Tynes (10) should have gone with a more conservative Kicker pick
Sleeper: Eddie Royal, WR, DEN if Marshall misses anytime Royal is huge
2010 Keeper: LeSean McCoy (15)
Evaluation: IF there is a weakness it may be at QB where an aging and injured Palmer competes with Hasselback for playing time.
Prediction: 9-4 Super Bowl Champ

Woody’s Warlocks
C-
Best Pick: Antonio Gates (2) perhaps the best TE in the league
Worst Pick: Matt Schuab (1) way too early even though I like his potential
Sleeper: Percy Harvin (8) WR MIN
2010 Keeper: Steve Breaston (15) WR AZ
Evaluation: I like all of the picks just not where they were drafted. 2 QBs in the first 4 round is overkill, as is 2 TEs in first 6 picks. The best DEF but in round 3 is too early.
Prediction: 4-9 last years SB champ cries in his beer and vows to do better next year.

Toks Terminators
B-
Best Pick: Greg Olsen (6) Keeper
Worst Pick: Michael Crabtree (15) this holdout will not see many fantasy points in 2009 but may prove to be a good keeper is stored on the roster all year long.
Sleeper: Willis McGahee (17) he looks like he may get some GL carries and could be the steal of the draft.
2010 Keeper: Crabtree (15)
Evaluation: Weak at QB (the other manning and Shaun Hill who may not be the starter after 6 games); although he has 3 QBs and that is good.
Prediction: 5-8

Cadillac Slim
C-
Best Pick: Kevin Walter (11)
Worst Pick: BUF defense in third round
Sleeper:TJHoo’s ya mamma (1) will surprise.
2010 Keeper: Shonn Greene (15)
Evaluation: Weak at RB. 4th and 9th are not the rounds you want to wait for RBs.. 2 QBs in first 7 rounds.
Prediction: 4-9 but wanting more

Neds Nutters
C+ (closer to B-)
Best Pick: Wes Welker (4)
Worst Pick: Brett Favre (7) as his QB1
Sleeper:Donnie Avery (8) and V Shiancothe (6)
2010 Keeper: Mark Sanchez (10)
Evaluation: RB-RB-WR-WR was a very solid start with great picks each round.
Prediction: 6-7 this could be better if Sanchez is a sleeper.

Sammy’s Slayers
B
Best Pick: Aaron Rodgers (4) I expect him to be a Top 3 QB
Worst Pick: Robert Royal (12) or Antonio Pittman (15) who may not make the 53 man roster cut
Sleeper: NE Defense or K Faulk (16)
2010 Keeper: Jeremy Maclin (18)
Evaluation: No real strengths and no real weaknesses. Just a good strong draft. I especially liked the cornering of the PHI WRs in Curtis and Mackin.
Prediction: 8-5 Playoff bound but loses in 2nd round

Spikings
B
Best Pick: Dallas Clark (5)
Worst Pick: Garrett Hartley (13)-rumors hint at a 4 game suspension coming soon
Sleeper: Rashad Jennings RB JAX
2010 Keeper: Mike Goodson (18) or Devone Bess (17)
Evaluation:
Prediction: 7-6 but look for a disappointing first round playoff loss.

Cowboys
B-
Best Pick: O Daniels (6);
Worst Pick: Derrick Ward (11), predict he shares the RB duties with Graham and Caddy Williams.
Sleeper: Willie Parker
2010 Keeper: Tashard Choice (16)
Evaluation: Too many “old names” (Brees, T.O., FWP, Holt and Bulger) means this is an old Cowboys team.
Prediction: 6-7 no playoffs as the Cowboys choke down the stretch.

Perverts of Pain
B+
Best Pick: Randy Moss (2)
Worst Pick: Chad Henne (18) say what???????????
Sleeper: Larry Johnson (3) and Donald Brown (7)
2010 Keeper: Ahmad Bradshaw (15), Evaluation: WR weak
Prediction: 8-5 and one playoff win moves this team a little further than last year.

Yellowfins
B+
Best Pick: Darren McFadden (3) Could have a top 10 RB there
Worst Pick: D McNabb (5) who has the same bye week as keeper Matt Ryan. TJ Duckett (16) who has no team.
Sleeper: Fred Jackson (12)
2010 Keeper: Earl Bennett (18)
Evaluation: Strong at RB and WR, but weak at TE.
Prediction: 8-5, First playoff visit by Yellowfins.

Crestview Crushers
C
Best Pick: Dwayne Bowe (4)
Worst Pick: Beanie Wells (2) WAY TOO EARLY for him to be drafted
Sleeper: Felix Jones (6)
2010 Keeper: Glen Coffee (15)
Evaluation:
Prediction: 6-5
